Description
Shrubby plants from South Africa ranging from cool temperate to subtropics.
Highly coloured flowers look reminiscent of bottlebrushes.
Decorative leaves are somewhat maple-like and are known to turn colour in winter before falling.
Can be a wiry twisted looking plant when deciduous.
Can be propagate by seed, suckers and cuttings.
Choices
G. radlkoferi – bold leaves and red bottlebrush-like flowers.
G. sutherlandii – medium to tall shrub with slightly smaller flowers.
Known problems
Need excellent drainage.
